Easter Meeting Dorrigo

We arrived in Dorrigo via the brand new bridges and bypasses for Kempsey and Bulahdelah for this "interstate" meeting with our own members and new friends from the (Queensland) Classic Japanese Car Club. It was great to spend quality time with Liz Trembath, Greg Moller & Lewis Bolton who are all long-time members of our club & the CJCC and a great pleasure to meet Jo & Wayne, Denise & Roger, Margaret & Kevin.

There were 3 Belletts, a Toyota landing barge and a couple of "moderns" to transport us around the picturesque hills & valleys of the area. We didn’t have to go far to get a view – outside every room was a constantly changing vista as the clouds moved over the mountains.

Saturday started with a spectacular view at a nearby lookout over seemingly endless mountains to the south, then on to the famous Dangar Falls, and a spirited drive down the mountain to Bellingen for shopping and a relaxed lunch at the recently flooded "Butter Factory". After topping up supplies, there was an even more spirited drive back UP the mountain. The road is called Waterfall Way and there are 2 waterfalls right beside the road.

Back in Dorrigo township we inspected a vast collection of unrestored steam engines and carriages. The Dorrigo National Park has an elevated walkway that takes you into the high high canopy of the rainforest and then out for a fantastic view of the valley. Some of us even went for a worthwhile WALK through the forest… I believe this is a first for a car club event! This still allowed plenty of time for drinks, nibbles and tall tales and true back at the motel before dinner.

The weather on Sunday dictated that we spend a little more time in the cars. First to Ebor Falls and a short cemetery stop for history buffs then a long, interesting drive to Nymboida for lunch and a look at a small but very well presented "Museum of Interesting Things". We farewelled Lewis here but the rest returned to Dorrigo for another twilight talkfest.

Many thanks to Liz & Greg for their superb organization of a wonderful get-together.
